Minneriya National Park is a national park in North Central Province of Sri Lanka. The area was designated as a national park on 12 August 1997, having been originally declared as a wildlife sanctuary in 1938. The reason for declaring the area as protected is to protect the catchment of Minneriya tank and the wildlife of the surrounding area. The park is a dry season feeding ground for the elephant population dwelling in forests of Matale, Polonnaruwa, and Trincomalee districts. Along with Kaudulla and Girithale, Minneriya forms one of the 70 Important Bird Areas (IBAs) of Sri Lanka.
Hurulu Eco Park
The Hurulu Forest Reserve in Sri Lanka is a thriving eco system with a variety of creatures. It was designated as a biosphere reserve in 1977. The forest reserve is a very important habitat of the Sri Lankan elephant. The Hurulu forest reserve represents the dry-zone dry evergreen forests Sri Lanka. There are many other protected areas situated around Hurulu Forest Reserve.
Kaudulla National Park
Kaudulla National Park is a national park on the island of Sri Lanka.It was designated a national park on April 1, 2002 becoming the 15th such area on the island. Along with Minneriya and Girithale BirdLife International have identified Kaudulla as an Important Bird Area. Historically Kaudulla was one of the 16 irrigation tanks built. It now attracts and supports a variety of plant and animal life, including large mammals, fish and reptiles.
