Trincomalee
Trincomalee is a port city on the northeast coast of Sri Lanka. Set on a peninsula, Fort Frederick was built by the Portuguese in the 17th century. Within its grounds it is a popular vantage point for blue-whale watching. There is a panoramic view over the city and the coastline.

Sri Lanka is considered to be one of the best places in the world for whale and dolphin watching while as many as 26 of the 80 species of cetaceans recorded around the world are also found in the Indian Ocean and the Bay of Bengal. Trincomalee is also one of the deepest and most strategically placed natural harbours in the world.
